Frequently asked questions

What is MEAL in humanitarian work?
MEAL stands for Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (in French: suivi, évaluation, redevabilité et apprentissage). It is the framework NGOs use to steer, evaluate and improve their projects, be accountable to communities and donors, and capture lessons learned. What is Opti' and what does the platform include?
Opti' is the AI MEAL platform built for humanitarian work. It is organised around three modules: OptiBot, the conversational assistant for methodology, indicators and documents; Opti Gemba, end-to-end mission management, from terms of reference to the report; and Opti Academy, personalised AI training. An Excel add-in published on Microsoft AppSource is also available.
What is the difference between OptiBot, Opti Gemba and Opti Academy?
OptiBot is the advice layer: methodology questions, indicators for a logframe, drafting documents. Opti Gemba is the operational layer: terms of reference, XLSForm questionnaires, data collection, analysis and reports. Opti Academy is the learning layer: MEAL training courses adapted to your level. All three share the same project data.
Which MEAL missions can you run with Opti'?
Opti Gemba covers the usual monitoring and evaluation missions: baseline and endline surveys, post-distribution monitoring (PDM), data quality assessment (DQA), focus groups and interviews, all the way to the final evaluation. Does Opti' work with KoboToolbox and ODK?
Yes, in two ways. Opti' connects directly to your KoboToolbox account: the questionnaire is deployed there in one click and responses come back into Opti' for analysis. And Opti Gemba's XLSForm generator produces questionnaires in standard XLSForm format (.xlsx), ready for KoboToolbox, ODK Collect, SurveyCTO or any XLSForm-based tool. Can you collect data offline?
Yes. Opti Gemba supports offline data collection with the Android mobile app: the questionnaire is downloaded to the device, filled in without a connection, and responses sync automatically as soon as the network is back, a key requirement in humanitarian settings.
Does Opti' work in French?
Yes, in French, English, Spanish, Arabic, and more than 120 languages for analysis. You can also generate multilingual questionnaires, for example French, English and Arabic, in a single request.
Is my data secure? What is OptIA?
Data and conversations are encrypted in the database, with a key stored separately, on servers in Europe, in line with the GDPR. The Premium plan includes OptIA, a private AI on a dedicated GPU container: no third-party AI provider, in-memory processing, purge after every request, TLS 1.3 and AES-256 encryption. Our approach is detailed on our ethical AI and data page.
How do the plans work, and what can you get for free?
Every plan counts in productions: generating a deliverable with a tool (terms of reference, questionnaire, focus group, analysis or report) uses one unit. Starter gives one per month, in the tool of your choice; Pro gives three complete missions per month and lets you work as a team. Conversations with OptiBot, Opti Academy and edits count towards a weekly usage allowance. Without a subscription, you try every tool and see the full result, and each level reached through the daily challenges unlocks a deliverable to keep. Details are on the pricing page.
How do I access Opti'?
From any browser at myoptibot.com/app, as an Android mobile app (Google Play or direct install from the browser), and as an Excel add-in via Microsoft AppSource.
How is it different from ChatGPT for MEAL?
Opti' is specialised in humanitarian MEAL: it knows the standards (CHS, SPHERE, OECD-DAC, AAP) and donor expectations, produces ready-to-use XLSForm questionnaires, and covers the whole cycle, from design to report.
